"Feining Gold?"

Do you know what you are eating on a daily basis?

Monosodium glutamate, sodium nitrite and calcium propionate. Sounds delicious right ? Not to me! I was SHOCKED at what manufacturers are placing into food that is then being placed into our bodies! For example, "imitation vanilla flavoring called vanillin is actually a waste product from paper mills. BHA, BHT and TBHQ are three preservatives made from petroleum oils that prevent fats in foods from spoiling." YUCK!

Why am I bringing this up? Comes to find out, diet plays a major role in behavior! And with O.D.D. comes ferocious behavior on a daily basis.  Speaking to some friends, I was informed of the Feingold Diet created by Dr. Benjamin Feingold.(Thank you MB and RF) The Feingold Diet is a diet that eliminates certain foods and additives in addition to certain chemicals and perfumes that are believed to trigger ADHD symptoms, among many other symptoms. (Please note: my son was also diagnosed with ADHD...this ailment usually couples with other ailments such as O.D.D. so I will address these diagnoses together as one). This step by step program allows us to remove certain food dyes, chemicals, etc. until we find a "happy medium". Success rate = 80%!!!! I will keep you posted once I receive the materials. Today I purchased all natural, dye & additive free vitamins to start tomorrow.  In the meantime, let's just say our neighborhood fish, geese, and ducks are fat and happy eating all the items I am currently purging from our cupboard! Wish us luck in "Fein-ing gold" :)

Hello Blogging World

Hello blogging world! Never in my wildest imagination did I think I would ever start a blog. With that said, my disclaimer is: I'm not sure how it is going to go or how long it will last, but it's worth a try right?

I am writing this blog for a few different reasons. My five year old son was recently diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder (O.D.D.) and yes it is odd! With this new medical mystery invading our daily lives, I feel it is important to do research, and lots of it! My husband and I need to understand the WHY's of this diagnosis to gain a better understanding of this ailment and the wrath it is wreaking on our son, our family, and those around us. I hope this blog reaches others who may be living a similar situation and I hope family and friends will read this blog to get a better understanding of our life and realize why our son says and does the things he does. He isn't just a "brat" kid as he has been labeled. He has a medical condition in which I hope to improve dramatically through research, but most of all, through the unconditional love I have for him!
